Doors- 6:00 pm, Competition – 8:00 pm
Rising sick days are threatening musicians and bartenders’ pockets and lives. Getting a flu shot is a vital step for anyone who works in cash based service jobs as when they miss work, they don’t get paid. The Musicians’ Clinic & Assistance Foundation is putting on this event to provide FREE flu shots to service and cultural industry workers, a bartender competition AND lots of fun!
To promote wellness in our community, the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic and Assistance Foundation is hosting Bartender Shootout on Frenchmen Street. Blue Nile prepares the battle grounds, not just against the flu, but for revenge for all the lost revenue and sick days the flu has taken from us!
Partnered with one of five participating liquor brands, nominated bartenders will battle it out in front of local celebrity judges for a chance to win one of two titles: the all-out competition or the crowd favorite. Prizes will be awarded for each!
In an effort to keep everyone who works in local bars, restaurants and clubs healthy, we aim to provide immunizations for up to 100 local cultural workers ahead of the yearly flu season.
Influenza (the flu) can be a serious disease, in some cases leading to hospitalization. This virus is highly contagious and anyone can get sick from the flu, even those who are otherwise healthy. The problem is compounded for service workers and musicians who rarely have access to paid sick leave (therefore cannot afford to miss a gig or shift because of the flu!), are unlikely to be insured, and yet are at increased risks for contracting the flu due to frequent contact with the public.
With the help of the Barman’s Fund and other sponsors, Bartcentennial – Flu Shot Drive & Bartender Competition will provide much needed, FREE flu shots to musicians and service industry workers ahead of the annual flu season.
