A collaborative initiative focused on food security, food equity, and nutrition education for our beloved local culture bearers.

grocery delivery

Launched in June 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Makin’ Groceries provides weekly, home-delivered care packages of nutritious groceries, prepared meals, community health education materials, and lagniappe to a group of 100+ elderly, immunocompromised, and other medically vulnerable NOMC patients and their families.

Led and produced by a network of local musicians, community health workers, volunteers, and local businesses the program is designed in collaboration with those served to show gratitude and admiration for their profound influence on our local culture.

What began during the pandemic as a means of working to ensure food security and nutritious meals to help sustain culture bearers, has evolved further to address gaps in food equity and nutrition education in the cultural community, while remaining a constant health resource.

With dedicated and strategic effort, combined with community support, Makin’ Groceries will ensure local culture bearers have access to healthy food, and feel safe, mentally healthy, and cared for weekly throughout 2021. Please help us honor, appreciate, and protect the creators, preservers, and perpetuators of New Orleans music and culture by donating today.
