A collaborative initiative focused on food equity and nutrition education for local culture bearers.

Launched in 2020, Makin’ Groceries provides weekly, home-delivered care packages of nutritious groceries, prepared meals, community health education materials, and lagniappe to over 100 elderly and medically vulnerable cultural elders and their families.

Led and produced by a network of local musicians, community health workers, volunteers, and local businesses the program is designed in collaboration with those served to show gratitude and admiration for their profound influence on our local culture.

What began during the pandemic as a means of working to ensure food security and help sustain culture bearers, has evolved to address gaps in food equity and nutrition education, while remaining a constant health resource.

With dedicated and strategic effort, combined with community support, Makin’ Groceries will ensure local culture bearers have access to healthy food, and feel safe, mentally healthy, and cared for every week. Please help us honor, appreciate, and protect the creators, preservers, and perpetuators of New Orleans music and culture by donating today.
